AFB Practice Roundtable: Culture, Diversity & Inclusion – Recent Regulatory Developments

In recent years Culture, and Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) have received attention from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and other regulators globally. The current economic and geopolitical climate also present challenges for HR professionals focussed on ‘people’ issues, in relation to areas such as productivity, leadership, talent, succession planning and the use of AI. In addition, the foreign banking community can experience distinct people-related challenges, due to the diverse and complex workforce compositions that are unique to subsidiaries and branches.

This roundtable, in partnership with BDO LLP, will help AFB members understand the changing regulatory environment with regards to key ‘people-focused’ topics, facilitate exploration of some of the broader economic and geopolitical challenges, and provide practical tips and insights to navigate some of the broader HR/People challenges and opportunities.

Why attend?

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in an interactive discussion with structured presentations, open questions, and sharing of expertise from the team at BDO LLP.

This session will provide an update on the evolving ‘people’ regulatory landscape, including:
  • the UK regulatory direction of travel with regards to D&I (and non-financial misconduct) (NFM).
  • an exploration of the current challenges facing HR/People Functions, with a specific focus on the foreign banking community from a UK subsidiary/branch perspective, including:
    • the composition of the workforce – navigating workforce diversity and culture
    • talent attraction, retention, and succession planning
    • tips and insights for subsidiaries and branches as to how to practically navigate the challenges presented by the current environment, including:
      • the continuing importance of D&I for talent attraction, retention, and performance
      • the ‘re-framing’ of D&I and centring on culture – and how the regulators use D&I and NFM as indicators of broader organisational culture

Who should attend?

Heads of HR/Chief People Officers or their deputies. There will be a limit of one representative from each AFB member to allow a wider range of firms to attend and benefit from the discussion.
