AFB Practice Roundtable: How Are Internal Audit Teams Auditing the Use of AI?

As the use of AI and generative AI accelerates across banking operations, internal audit functions are increasingly being asked to provide independent assurance over AI systems, model governance, data quality, third-party solutions, regulatory compliance and ethical use.

This roundtable will provide members with an opportunity to discuss how Internal Audit teams are responding to these challenges, the audit approaches being adopted across firms, and the practical issues encountered when auditing rapidly evolving technologies.

Why attend?

This roundtable, hosted and facilitated by BDO, will help members contribute to their firm’s AI strategy and ensure they develop an effective approach to managing the risks presented by new technologies.

The roundtable will discuss the following key areas:

  • Auditing AI governance and accountability frameworks
  • Assessing AI risk management and control effectiveness
  • Oversight of third-party and vendor AI solutions
  • Regulatory expectations and supervisory focus areas
  • Skills, expertise and resource challenges within Internal Audit teams
  • Practical lessons learned from completed AI audits

There will be opportunities for discussion with other attendees, as well as with BDO. AFB will circulate an agenda and a series of questions to attendees in advance, which will be used to support discussions.

The Chatham House Rule will apply to this event to encourage open dialogue and discussion.

Breakfast and networking will be available from 08:30 before the roundtable discussion commences at 09:00.

Please note that there will be a limit of one representative per AFB member to allow a wider range of firms to attend and benefit from the discussion.

Who should attend?

The roundtable is aimed at representatives from Internal Audit functions at member banks.
