AFB Seminar: Digital Assets in 2025 – The Next Generation for Markets?

AFB members are invited to attend an in-person seminar on Digital Assets. Given by the law firm, CMS, attendees will learn about recent legal and regulatory developments in crypto and digital assets and their relevance for banks.

Why attend?

The session will cover the following:

  • What are crypto and digital assets (and what’s the difference)?
  • Legal status – are they legal, are they recognized by mainstream legal systems?
  • Regulatory approaches – how do regulators view them and what is the current regulatory map (in the UK, EMEA and the US)?
  • How are they currently in use in the financial markets at the start of 2025?
  • Risk management principles – KYC, security, avoiding customer harm
  • What’s next – outlook for 2025

Speakers

Charles Kerrigan, Partner, CMS

Charles Kerrigan is a partner in the Finance Team and part of the specialist Emerging Technologies Group at CMS in London.  He specialises in fintech, including crypto, digital assets, and AI.  

In the last 10 years he has worked for banks and investment firms on many of the landmark UK and European crypto and tokenisation projects in payments, securities, and alternative assets.  He specialises in launching new digital products in regulated financial firms.

He has advised governments and trade bodies on policy relating to digitalisation in markets and written legal and regulatory sections of the UK Finance, Investment Association, and AFME member publications on tokenisation.

He is the author of Crypto and Digtial Assets Law and Regulation (Sweet & Maxwell, 2022). 

The Blockchain Industry Landscape Overview 2018 names Charles as “one of the UK’s leading influencers on blockchain”. He is the UK’s “recommended lawyer” for blockchain and digital technology in the UK Parliament Hub.  He is a board member of a number of fintech firms and accelerators.
